Welcome 6th Graders! As a 6th grader you will get to choose your elective class and we hope that you will choose to be a part of the OVMS Band! In band you will learn to play an instrument, get to perform, make new friends and have a lot of fun. Watch the informational video below to see what band is all about!

Congratulations to the following students selected for the 2018-19 Alachua County Middle School Honor Band. Students were selected by audition and performed a concert with the HS Honor Band at the University of Florida Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

Congratulations to the Concert and Symphonic Bands for earning Superior ratings at the 2019 FBA Concert Music Performance Assessment! Participate in the Universal Studios STARS Workshop 2019
During the Universal Studios STARS Workshop students got experience life as working movie musicians, syncing music– including Foley and digital sound effects – to real movie scenes from Illumination Entertainment’s The Lorax. Concert and Symphonic Band students performed and recorded the soundtrack, dialogue and Foley effects for this clip from The Lorax. We then spent the day at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.

Participate in the Disney Performing Arts Workshop 2018
Participate in the Disney Performing Arts Workshop 2018
Concert and Symphonic Band students took a trip to Disney in May this year to participate in the You're Instrumental! Disney Performing Arts Workshop. These students got to experience what it is like to be a studio musician for a day. They sight read and recorded a clip from a sound track to Tarzan. It was a fun and memorable experience for our young musicians.

Congratulations Concert & Symphonic Bands!
The concert and symphonic bands were recognized by the Alachua County School Board for their achievement on earning Superior ratings at the Florida Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment on March 10th. This is the 11th Superior Rating for the Symphonic Band and the first Superior Rating for the Concert Band!

The Band Uniform Fitting Date Has Passed
If your child missed the band uniform fitting date you can go to the Men's Warehouse to order the uniform listed below.
Beginning Band & 7th Grade Students:
Girls will be fitted with a Black Concert Dress, pictured below.
Boys will wear white, wing-tipped tuxedo shirt and black dress pants.
8th Grade Girls may be fitted with the dress or wear the uniform below.
8th Grade students will need a white, wing-tipped tuxedo shirt and Girls: solid black, full-length skirt (or black uniform concert dress) ; Boys: solid black, dress pants for their concert uniform.

The Concert & Symphonic Bands performed for the Florida Bandmasters Music Performance Assessment on Thursday, March 12th, 2015. Both bands did a great job performing and representing our school! The bands were assessed on stage by 3 adjudicators. These judges rated the band on how well they performed 3 pieces of music on which we have been working. The bands were then assessed by a 4th judge in Sight Reading - Playing two pieces of music they had never seen before. Congratulations Concert & Symphonic Bands on a job well done!
